Having recently returned from the 2006 Annual Scientific Meeting in Hawaii, I find myself with renewed energy and appreciation for the Society, and with great interest in planning for our 2007 meeting. The symposia at our 33rd Annual Meeting were fabulous, and we all appreciated the luxurious hotel and beautiful Big Island’s many charms.

I know that I speak for all members, when I thank Leslie Born PhD and Diana Dell MD for co-chairing the meeting. Thank you Leslie and Diana, for your creativity and for all your work in preparation for the meeting. We are all appreciative of your significant efforts.

We also thank our colleagues and symposia chairs. Kim Yonkers’ unending drive, and with significant assistance from Meir Steiner and Claudio Soars culminated in our Sponsors contributing generously towards the symposia. We appreciate the support of Berlex, Sepracor, National Institute of Mental Health, and Wyeth.

And now, our Program Committee is planning for our 2007 meeting in Portland, Oregon. The Committee includes: David Baram MD, Linda Chaudron MD, Jane Harrison-Hohner NP, Meg O'Reilly MD, Deborah Rich PhD, Julie Rosenberg MD, Jonathan Schaffir MD and myself. We have made arrangements with the Portland Marriott City Center ( www.marriottportland.com). Save the date! February 8-10, 2007. Please contact me if you would like to talk about NASPOG. I welcome your participation in the Society.

At this meeting, we re-named the Junior Investigator's Symposium. It will now be known as The Steiner Young Investigator's Symposium. This honor was bestowed upon Dr. Steiner, for his years of research and mentorship in the field of women's mental health, as well as for his many years of leadership and support of our Society. It was a pleasure to invite Dr. Steiner's own mentor, Dr. Bernard Carroll, to our meeting, as our guest of the Young Investigator's Symposium, as well as to honor his protégé. Kathleen O'Leary from the NIMH chaired the symposium, selected the awarded abstracts, and gave a talk about the Value of Mentorship.

  • Nominations Committee presented slate for Executive Council Positions:
    Secy Treas: Susan Kornstein MD
Members at Large: Jon Schaffir MD, Linda Chaudron MD

Welcome to the new Board members! We thank you in advance for your efforts on Naspog’s behalf.

During the meeting, Diana Dell announced that she wished not to move into the next position, of President-Elect, and did not wish to become President in 2007. The Board discussed this, and recommended that we combine the Vice President and President-Elect positions, and also to request that Kim Yonkers be moved into the VP/President Elect position. Kim agreed to this plan, and so our current board is comprised of:

    President: Jillian Romm RN, LCSW
    Vice President/President-Elect: Kimberly Yonkers MD
    Secretary Treasurer: Susan Kornstein MD
Past President: Andrea M. Braverman PhD
    Members-at-Large:
    Leslie Born, MSc, PhD (2005-2007)
    Linda Chaudron MD (2006-2008)
    Jonathon Schaffir MD (2006-2008)
    Scott Stuart MD (2005-2007)
Member in Training: Alison Shea MSc
    Manager: Marion Johnson

The new Board was voted in by the membership at the NASPOG membership luncheon at our meeting in Hawaii. Welcome Aboard! We look forward to working with you on the Society's behalf.
